Pafuri Wildlife Workshop, May 2018

Ilka and I (Michael) did a 4 night wildlife workshop with College of Digital Photography at the Baobab Hill Bush House set in the spectacular surrounds of the Makuleke concession of the northern Kruger National Park.

The workshop consisted of a combination of game drives and game walks, to intimately explore one of the highest biodiversity areas of the Kruger Park. Pafuri is unrivalled walking country and this had been our chance to experience one of the Kruger’s remotest corners on foot.

The walks offered a chance to focus on the little things, so we did quite some macro photography and close-ups as well as landscape and birds. It was quite exciting to walk to the riverside and take pictures of hippos. Another situation was to be able to get up close to take "portraits" of a chameleon.

From a time of the day perspective also everything was possible. We were able to catch the early hours of the day just before sunrise and we have been out until late. We did night photography out in the field, obviously well protected by our excellent ranger Calvin.
